Creating a story
Is this just for children?
No. It’s My Story is for people of every age: a child’s adventure, a grown-up’s birthday gift, a family history or a story inspired by someone’s life. Adults manage accounts and oversee children’s use.
How does AI fit into my story?
AI helps turn your ideas into words and illustrations. You stay in charge: read every page, change the details and personalise it before you buy.
Can the pictures look like the people in my story?
Yes. Add a photo of each character and we use it only to draw them in the illustrations. You can also describe them in words instead.
Which illustration styles can I choose?
Cartoon, comic, watercolour, 3D, ink and anime, or let us choose. You can see an example of each on How it works and when you create your story.
How long is a book?
Every printed book has at least 28 pages: your story, a title page, a dedication or “this book belongs to” page, and pages to talk about and draw your favourite moment.
What size is the book?
Every printed book is a 210 × 210mm square, a size that’s easy to hold, share and read together. The PDF has the same pages, ready to read on any screen.
Can I change the story after it has been created?
Yes. Edit the words on any page and redraw pictures until it feels right, all before you order.
Can I create a story in another language?
Stories are written in English for now. We’d love to hear which languages you would like next.
Pricing and ordering
What is free, and what do I pay for?
Creating and previewing a story is free with an account. A PDF download costs 99p. A softcover costs £20, a hardback £24.99 and our special edition hardback with a gold foil title £34.99, each with the PDF and free tracked UK delivery included.
How do I pay?
Securely by card at checkout. Payments are handled by a trusted, secure payment provider; we never see or store your full card details.
Can I order several copies?
Yes. Choose the quantity when you order a printed book.
Delivery and returns
How long does delivery take?
Printing usually takes 2–4 working days, and tracked UK delivery 3–7 working days after that. See Delivery information.
Do you deliver outside the UK?
Printed books are currently delivered to the countries offered at checkout, starting with the UK. PDFs can be downloaded anywhere. If you need delivery elsewhere, contact us.
Can I return a personalised book?
Because every book is made just for you, we can’t accept returns for a change of mind. If your book arrives damaged or faulty, we’ll put it right. See Returns & refunds.
Where can I track my order?
Sign in and open Settings → Print orders, or visit Order support.
Privacy and safety
What happens to the photos I upload?
Photos are used only to create the characters in your illustrations. They are never shared publicly or used to advertise. Read how we look after them in our privacy policy.
Can I delete my stories and data?
You can delete any story from your account at any time. To delete your account and everything in it, email [email protected].
Who can use It’s My Story?
Accounts are for adults aged 18 or over. Children can enjoy creating stories with a parent, carer or teacher who manages the account.
Organisations and creators
Can my organisation use It’s My Story?
Yes, we welcome schools, nurseries, councils, Family Hubs, charities, professionals and businesses. See For organisations and send us an enquiry.
Can I sell a book I’ve written?
Not yet. Selling your own book on the marketplace is coming soon; contact us if you’d like to be among the first.
